Leader of European Youth for an Irish YES Toni Giugliano said:
“This time we will win over Ireland’s young people. Europe means opportunity. And this opportunity needs to be brought to Ireland’s youth.
“Despite Ireland’s young people showing the Treaty the red card in 2008, I have no doubt that they are not against European integration.
“The confusion brought on by Ganley’s pathetic propaganda campaign made young voters lose faith in politics and vote against the Treaty. This time however, it just won’t wash. The facts are out there, the Yes campaign is finally credible and the No side has crumbled. The New Deal has killed them off for good.
Samuele Pii, President JEF Europe said:
“European Youth for an Irish Yes will be the largest European wide youth network to campaign in Ireland.
“There is no doubt that this is a referendum for the people of Ireland alone. However, a European dimension needs to be present in this campaign, also to remind voters that the outcome of the referendum will not only impact on Irish citizens but citizens of all other EU Member States.
“Despite the positive polls there is still no room for complacency. We must canvass on Dublin’s streets as though we were the underdogs, and campaign for every vote.
Notes:
1. In 2008 over 60% of Ireland’s young people and students voted against the Treaty.
