EU Prime Minister Mr. Børre-Erik Flo and the other government ministers from the Progressive Social Party, winners of the 2054 European elections, joined Emre at the celebrations. With more than 600 million citizens and the largest GDP per head of any of the major world regions, the mood was optimistic. “This is surely much more fun that Berlin in 2007!” stated Flo.
Speaking to the Daily European’s reporter, veteran EU commentator Mr. Jon Worth stated “Well, the 2020s marked the real turning point for Europe. That’s when the new federal constitution was finally agreed – replacing the cranky draft of fifteen years earlier. The EU achieved tax raising powers too, allowing it to become a major world power.”
“2035 was when the EU’s bold energy policy started to pay dividends, with fusion power coming on stream for the first time and the decisive shift to the hydrogen economy. One seat for the EU in the UN was the cherry on the cake.”

Scepticism has only remained steadfast in France, with the Strasbourg seat of the European Parliament having finally abolished in 2019, and farmers still to this day blockading roads to protest about agricultural spending.
Daily European interviewed the BBC’s veteran EU commentator Jon Worth at the 100 years Rome Treaty festivities. Mr Worth was strongly engaged in the federalist movement during the change of millennium, served as the President of Young European Federalists (JEF) in 2003-2005.
