Stop panicking about Isis and let’s have a EU partnership programme for the Mediterranean
Despite all the media attention it has drawn in the past twelve months, the Islamic State is hardly Europe’s main problem. It is true that together with the Eurozone’s troubles, geopolitics should be European leaders’ main worry. But the IS is only one of the reasons why Europe’s neighbourhood is aflame. Limiting our attention to it would be detrimental to the solution of other security issues. Instead, it is high time Europe had a coherent Mediterranean partnership program and a pragmatic approach to the Middle East and North Africa.
