Offshore Handling nun auch in der EU ?

Australien schickt seit mehr als zehn Jahren Asylbewerber*innen in weit entfernte Länder. Das Verfahren, welches als Offshore Handling von Migrant*innen bekannt ist, wurde bereits von einigen europäischen Ländern befürwortet : Dänemark und das Vereinigte Königreich haben Gesetze in diese Richtung verabschiedet. Wird es in der Europäischen Union in absehbarer Zeit eine Offshore-Abfertigung von Migrant*innen geben ? Menschenrechtsorganisationen hoffen das nicht. Sie haben diese Offshore-Bearbeitungssysteme wiederholt wegen ihrer Auswirkungen auf die Rechte und das Wohlergehen von Asylbewerber*innen kritisiert.

Will the EU adopt offshore handling of migrants ?

Australia has been sending asylum seekers to remote countries for more than ten years now. The procedure, known as offshore handling of migrants, has been preached by some countries : Denmark and the UK have passed laws towards this direction. Will we see offshore handling of migrants in the European Union anytime soon ? Human rights organisations hope not, as they have repeatedly criticised these offshore processing systems for their impact on the rights and well-being of asylum seekers.
