Stattdessen wird der Müll auf Schiffe verladen und um die halbe Welt verschifft, wo er oft in Ländern landet, die bereits mit der Bewirtschaftung ihrer eigenen Abfälle zu kämpfen haben.

Behind the shiny image of European environmental leadership lies a surprising reality : a huge portion of its waste doesn’t get recycled in Europe, even though the EU is home to some of the world’s most ambitious recycling programs. Instead, it’s packed onto ships and sent halfway around the world, often ending up in countries that are already struggling to manage their own waste.
